《英文虎報》報道海底撈首日掛牌,標題為Hotpot sizzles then fizzles,廣東話可譯做「有頭威無尾陣」——Shares in mainland hotpot company Haidilao soared by more than 10 percent on its debut in Hong Kong, but the surge was short-lived as the shares just as quickly retreated in value.

Hotpot sizzles then fizzles,剛好寓意海底撈上市股價前段升勢甚佳,但後勁不繼,曇花一現,甚至差一點破招股價收場—— If something sizzles, it means it’s red hot, just like a wok on a roaring flame, but if something fizzles, it dies out like throwing water onto a fire.

A politician could be set for great things but a hidden scandal could see his hopes of being elected fizzling out
